One 13 lb. turkey, plus 4 gallons of hot (325f.) Peanut Oil and 45 minutes of your time....Equals.... the tastiest, juiciest, turkey you have ever had.

My son-in-law, Clint Wallis, is truly a master chef of all outdoor cooking.

Elephant Face Jug In Progress

Here's an Elephant face jug in progress. He's taking some pesky birds for a ride. He doesn't seem all that happy about the situation. I was just in the mood to make some Elephants .

Winter's Coming

Soon, old Winter's effect will fall upon the land leaving a barren and desolate landscape. This old, earthy skull jug is just a reminder that nothing is permanent.

Halloween is one of my favorite times of the year.  I still love spooky stories and, "things that go bump in the night".  F
or me, nothing is more fun to make than a skull , creature or goblin.

This jug was sculpted mostly by pushing the clay out from the inside. The glazes and underglazes came out especially nice. The inside is glazed with a lead free stoneware glaze and is suitable for any liquid you would care to put in it. An antique hand-blown glass marble is the eye.

Dapper Dan

Dapper Dan, Steampunk Man.
I spent several years doing junk sculpture so this guy is kind of a natural extension of that process except he is made of clay pieces instead of metal.

Frankensteam Jug In Progress

Another Steampunkeroo.
Frankenstein, The original "Junk Yard Dog". I struggled with him until I realized that he should be all grungy and cobbled together. When finished he will have wires from the insulators to the terminals on his neck.

20,000 Leaks Under The Sea

Another Steampunk jug in progress. This one reminded me of something from Jules Verne's, " 20,00 Leagues Under The Sea". I made a Steampunk fish for his stopper. This is a good sized jug.

Steampunk Skull Jug In Progress

I have been making some skull jugs lately and have been thinking of making some more Steampunk jugs. I decided to try a Steampunk skull just for my own amusement. So far, he is coming out great. I will glaze him with a very unpredictable metallic glaze that may bubble and crawl and can turn out anywhere from a flat black to a bright bronze. I'll finish him with Gold and metal luster details in a third firing.

The Jug O Lantern Family

The "Jug-O-Lantern" family of jugs.

I wanted to get the feel of the old paper mache Jack-O-Lanterns without copying them directly.

They are done with underglazes and a crackle slip while wet, then rubbed with oxides and more underglazes after bisque. Then they are sprayed with a wash of Gerstley Borate before being fired to cone 6. This gives them a soft sheen instead of a real glossy glaze. The crackle slip on the skulls came out especially nice.

Forked Tongue Devil

Title: "Forked Tongue Devil, (The Politician)"
You'll be seeing and hearing from a lot of these demons in the next year. They hide behind a mask so you can't see what they are really like. They turn a blind eye to reality and lie eloquently with their gold-leafed, forked tongue. Actually, it is brass leaf (appropriate).
This jug was sculpted mostly by pushing the clay out from the inside.

Jug-O-Lanterns In Progress

My favorite holiday is Halloween. I threw these small jugs  distorted them to look like pumpkins, and sculpted faces on the them. The faces were pushed out from the inside. No clay was added (all but the tips of the noses, horns and teeth.)
